Aang is a 12-year old Air Nomad training to be the next Avatar. He was caught in a fierce storm. To survive, he encased himself and his flying bison in an airpocket. The airpocket froze into an iceberg, leaving them trapped inside. Katara and Sokka, who are siblings in the Southern Water Tribe, come across that iceberg 100 years later and free Aang.
